Description
We are located in Esen, a district of Diksmuide with a rich history. Around the turn of the century the village had 6 breweries and two distilleries, which mainly worked part-time. The history of the brewery goes back to 1835 when doctor Louis Nevejan founded the brewery, later with distillery.
Oerbier, brewed in Esen by De Dolle Brouwers, is dark due to the mixture of different types of malt and hours of cooking time. Only ‘Golding’ bubble hop from Poperinge is used and all our beers are bottled with secondary fermentation.
The name refers to the originality and purity of the beer.
Oerbier has a slightly fresh acidity due to the yeast and lactic acid bacteria.
Brewed from 3 different malts this is a very special beer that is both dark and a little sour. The more you age this beer the more the yeast takes hold so if you can resist leave one in a dark place for 6 months or more to get a brand new set of flavours.
It starts rich and funky and ages into a mellow sour and nutty taste.
